Ha, OK! I had assumed the were hiding the existence of Gem Levels from Steven, but looking back at 418, Garnet is also in the dark. It makes sense, although given the amount of stuff they hide from Steven and the fact that this is the only line from an off-screen character in this strip, I hope my confusion is understandable.
