You're not the only person like that. Entire generations of gamers are trained, mostly by RPGs, to think like that.
The common line of thinking is 'The game wants me to go this way, so let's go the other way. That's where all the loot is!'
Most of the time, I am unaware of the Red Button until someone tells me not to press it. Then I have to know. I just have to. BREEP!

...am I the only one who when they're told they SHOULDN'T do something really kinda wants to? Like don't press the big red button. All that rule does is draw attention to it!
And when a person says you couldn't...or wouldn't...it's like a challenge to prove them wrong! However self-destructive!
Also I may or may not envision the graveyard of abandoned games as looking like the Graveyard of Cards from that Yugioh Episode with Bakura and everyone becoming their cards.
